I sat down with Team Novo Nordisk VP of Operations and Sponsorships Sergey Davidenko at this year’s Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Convention to discuss how modern technology is transforming travel for global sporting teams.

Tell us about the mission of Team Novo Nordisk and why managing travel effectively is so important for your team.

Team Novo Nordisk is the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team. It was established in 2012 as a powerful platform to raise awareness around diabetes and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Supporting the travel needs for a professional cycling team is very complicated logistically because we race in over 30 countries every year. Our team often travels from one event to another before we come back home, so we need technology that simplifies multi-city bookings.

We have a professional cycling team who compete against the best cyclists in the world. It’s 18 professional riders and about 40 staff people to support them.

We also have our development teams that are formed of young riders and a global ambassadors team of elite athletes that compete in different sports. At our last training camp, we had around 90 people present.

What I really like about Spotnana is that we have access to a large inventory of travel options and everything is there, from hotels and airline tickets to train tickets and rental cars.

Managing everything on one platform makes travel management super easy. Spotnana has a unique, comprehensive set of tools that are important for me to have as a person who oversees our travel management program. I can address traveler safety, I can see analytics in real-time, run real-time reports, and see what’s going on with the travel management of my company.

With team members and events around the world, Team Novo Nordisk is always on the move. Which of our features make life easier for your travelers?

I want to highlight the actual travel booking features because it’s extremely user friendly, which you rarely see nowadays.

First, the ability to make changes or cancellations within the platform without contacting an agent is a huge benefit. But if you run into trouble, you can just click a button to chat with an agent and within a minute you have an agent online.

We had a situation where flights were canceled by an airline and before our traveler realized what had happened, he got a call from a Spotnana agent with alternative flight options, which was great and really efficient.

It’s also very easy for us to manage multi-city airline bookings and trips in Spotnana on our own, and having all the travel options available in one place is simply fantastic,

We are definitely excited about having you as a customer and the early feedback has been very positive. What has been the most impactful feature for your program?

Using one travel management platform gives us peace of mind. If we run into problems, we just have to contact one agent who will help us find the solution.

Spotnana helps us to focus our energy on our business and not worry about problems with logistics.
